Low-carbon footprint materials is a way to address the environmental and societal challenges lying ahead. The objective of the project is the development of bio-based polymers made of biomolecules extracted from different sources of local biomass. Certech has developed a home-made fluidized-bed reactor for the flash pyrolysis of biomass, leading to different oily liquid phases containing potentially interesting aromatic or furanic derivatives. After validation of the system, the products of interest will be separated and used as raw materials for polymer production.
First results were presented at ISGC 2019 (Symposium on Green Chemistry Renewable Carbon and Eco-Efficient Processes). The study on the flash pyrolysis of biomass has been awarded the IFPEN Best Poster price among 150 other ones.
